When you are clearing land to build, you are going to need to remove the tree stumps. It’s not an easy task as trees really hold onto the ground hard. Smaller stumps can be excavated and removed reasonably easily – like these ones.
But when the stumps are bigger than about 25cms in diameter it’s usually quicker and cheaper to use a stump grinder – unless you have a really big excavator.
A tracked grinder like this machine makes short work of large stumps, literally reducing them to sawdust! The cutting head isn’t like an ordinary saw blade, so it lets you grind a stump and it’s roots right down about 25cms below the surface. If the rest of the roots need to come out, then the excavator can handle them, otherwise they can just be left in the ground and the hole filled in.
This was a challenging job due to the steep slope, but we got it done.
Once the stumps were out I cleaned up the site with the excavator.
